National Division Round-up

Team on the day last Saturday was certainly Crynant. How could anyone expect the bottom club to beat the top one? It did happen in Division Six Central though as Crynant won 20-15 with tries by Simon Parfitt and Adrian Phillips with Craig Davies converting both and adding two penalty goals.

Laugharne were another club to take the honours of the last round of matches as they registered only their third win of the season by going to Penclawdd and winning 19-5.

The two ‘minnows’ left in the Principality Cup are Hirwaun and Aberystwyth and both gained good league wins as Hirwaun won 33-7 at home to Tonyrefail in Division Three East and Aberystwyth beat Skewen 37-10 in Division Four West.

Unbeaten sides remaining are now down to four, headed by Llantwit Fardre with 11 wins in Three East, followed by Brynamman with an identical record in Five West and Maesteg Quins, a third club with eleven straight wins in Five West. The other unbeaten club is Nant Conwy have won eight out of eight in Division Six North.

In the National League Division Two this Saturday, Pencoed will be the home side against Ystradgynlais while leaders Narberth travel to Carmarthen Athletic for what may be an interesting duel.

Amongst the Eastern matches the Pill Harriers-Llanishen clash in Five and Penarth versus Newport Saracens in the same division should be hard-fought, while in Central one of the strongest contests will be in Division Seven, where Dowlais meet BP Llandarcy.

The West will have a big meeting at Vardre in Division Three, where second-placed Cwmavon provide the opposition to the leaders. The top four clubs in Six West will clash with Llandybie meeting Lampeter and Neyland playing Glais.

In the North, new leaders in Division Five are Llangefni, who hope to carry on winning with a match at Llandudno. In Six North, Nant Conwy miss out on this round and Bala play away to Bangor University.
