Even though his side are currently unbeaten this season, including winning the RTB Ebbw Vale Under 9’s tournament, Kieran has not been chosen purely on the back of his sides form.
In fact, Kieran’s willingness to represent the opposition on more than one occasion, notably for Beddau, Pontypridd and Ynysybwl, together with him overcoming a hearing problem causing difficulty during on field communication, means that rugby has enabled Kieran to overcome such difficulties at a young age, consequently improving his behaviour.
His coaches, Lawrence Meredith and Mark Rowden confirm: “When Kieron first joined the club he was a bit of a loose cannon and we had difficulty in getting him to give the ball to any other player. But he now listens to us and has now developed into a player who has an uncanny knack of coming up with the loose ball. We believe this to be an ideal situation to demonstrate how rugby has helped a wayward child improve his behaviour”.

Sarah O’Rafferty, Sponsorship Manager of Zurich added “Kieran has had to develop his own communication strategies on the field in order to succeed. Adapting to this and showing tremendous spirit in offering to help out the opposition from time to time makes him a worthy winner of this important Campaign.
