Scarlets Head To North Wales

Scarlets Head To North Wales

Llanelli and Wales skipper Scott Quinnell will head North once again next week – but this time not to the 13-aside code.
Instead the man the whole of Wales hopes will lead his country to a Lloyds TSB Six Nations triumph over Italy this weekend will be fronting a major promotional drive for the national sport in North Wales.
The Llanelli initiative will see no fewer than 14 of the club’s international players help to spread the Scarlets’ rugby gospel in schools, rugby clubs and towns from Aberystwyth to Wrexham.
In fact, five players who will be on duty in the Six Nations Championship this weekend will be taking part in the special tour which will bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of youngsters.
The Heineken Cup semi-finalists will visit up to four venues a day in a gruelling schedule teaching rugby skills, signing autographs and raising awareness, starting on Tuesday 5th February.
Pit-stops are scheduled at schools and rugby clubs in Aberystwyth, Dolgellau, Wrexham, Llanrwst and Bangor and all of the Club’s top stars will make an appearance.
“There is no scheduled fixture for Llanelli next weekend, so it’s not a training week for us,” said Quinnell.
“But that doesn’t mean the boys will be taking it easy, we’re touring junior and senior Schools, rugby Clubs and Town centres throughout North Wales all week.
“Llanelli normally travel around schools and rugby clubs in West Wales during the summer and it’s usually a lot of fun for the players as well as those who turn out to see us.
“Travelling to North Wales will be a similar experience and hopefully we can get more and more youngsters interested in rugby.”
