Scarlets Say Thank You To Their Fans

Llanelli have heaped praise on their fans for the magnificent support they gave them in their epic quest to reach the Heineken Cup final.
A last gasp Tim Stimpson penalty finally gave the reigning champions Leicester a 13-12 ground at a packed City Ground, in Nottingham, on Sunday, but the Scarlets have pledged to one day win Europe’s top title for their fans.
“On behalf of everyone connected with Llanelli Rugby Club, I would like to thank the travelling army of fans who backed their team to the hilt in the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup at Nottingham on Sunday,” said Llanelli chief executive Stuart Gallacher.
“To see 13,000 Llanelli supporters cheering on their team from well before the start until well after the finish of an incredible game proved to the players there are no better fans in the world.
“Almost 130 coaches travelled from all over Wales to the City Ground and no team could have asked for any more from their fans in what was an extraordinary display of loyalty and support.
“The bitter disappointment felt by the team, the management and everyone else who works at Stradey Park in losing out to Leicester on a place in the Heineken Cup final at the Millennium Stadium has now been replaced by an even greater desire to one day deliver a European title to our faithful followers.
“Thankfully, there are two more titles for the players to aim for in the final few weeks of the season and the opportunity to play in the Principality Cup final will provide Scott Quinnell and his players with a chance to repay the fans with another great cup performance.
“Scarlet fever is alive and well in Wales and it was with great pride that the Llanelli players represented the Welsh nation in the semi-finals of the world’s greatest club rugby tournament for the second time in three years.
“Having been pipped at the post by Leicester in the ‘Battle of Britain’, the aim now is to mount a winning crusade in Europe next season.”
