Llanelli Name New Skipper

Leigh Davies has been appointed the new LLanelli captain and his first job will be to lead the Scarlets on tour to the former Eastern bloc country of Slovenia, wearing the new first team jersey of the club.
Scott Quinnell vacates the club captaincy to concentrate on his leadership duties at international level, and Davies will be supported by a new vice-captain in lock Vernon Cooper with Stephen Jones standing down from that post.
Davies, the 26-years-old Wales centre joined the Scarlets two years ago from Bristol and made his 20th appearance for Wales against Ireland in the postponed Six Nations match at the Millennium Stadium in October 2001.
Davies will lead the club for the first time, wearing Llanell’s new first team jersey, on the summer tour of Slovenia.
“Leigh is a key decision maker in the back line and has proved himself to be a responsible and reliable player, with all the attributes of a top class rugby
professional,” said Llanelli’s Director Rugby, Gareth Jenkins.
“Our trip to Hungary really helped to kick-start the season last summer and we are hoping Slovenia can give us the same preparation.
“But the trip is also about spreading the gospel of rugby in Eastern Europe, part of an outreach programme we’ve been running for a number of years now.”
The Summer Training Camp in Slovenia includes two matches: –
July 31 – vs A Central European XV.
August 3 – vs Slovenia.
