Neath Attempt To Psyche Out Scarlets

Neath Attempt To Psyche Out Scarlets

You can’t fool us Llanelli – is the message from Neath coach Lyn Jones as they prepare to face the reigning Welsh champions at the Gnoll on Saturday (5.30pm).

The Scarlets named a near full strength side to face the Welsh All Blacks, but injury problems in the second row lead coach Gareth Jenkins to leave those two positions vacant.

Jones sees this as trickery and has charged the champions with trying to stop Neath play in recent seasons rather than setting their own agenda.

“Llanelli have been successful against us by not allowing us to play our natural game,” said Jones.

“It is a must win match for them, and in spite of the tricks they have been playing in this week’s papers, I am sure they will have selected their strongest side.”

Jones himself is yet to name his side, but will select from a 22 hampered by four injuries – Brett Sinkinson (knee),Steve Martin (ruptured appendix), Adam Matthews (knee) and John Leyshon (shoulder).

“We must have a firm base to work off if we are going to cause problems to their defence,” added Jones.

“We have caused them problems in our last six games without actually registering a victory and we will be looking to put this right on Saturday evening”

Gareth Jenkins, however, is in an equally defiant mood, he said: “We are not going there to tango with Neath.

Every time we play we try to select the best side possible and this is a local derby and a big game for us.”
