Jenkins Eyes Up Bourgoin

Llanelli are the only one of the five Welsh teams able to boast a 100 per cent record after just one round of the Heineken Cup – and the meticulous planning of coach Gareth Jenkins could play a major part in their efforts to make it two out of two in Bourgoin on Friday night.

Last Friday night Jenkins went north to run the rule over his other Pool 3 opponents, Sale Sharks and Bourgoin, less than 24 hours before the Scarlets won 45-15 at home to Glasgow in Round 1.

“Bourgoin are a very physical outfit and they will prove difficult opposition,” said Jenkins. “I was taken aback by their physical momentum against Sale.

“They have a big defence and ability to get over the gain line – which we will have to cope with.

“We are not firing on all cylinders at the moment. It was spasm rugby, with very little continuity, but naturally we are not disappointed with the win against Glasgow.”

Llanelli know what it takes to win on French soil, having beaten Bourgoin and Colomiers in the 1999 / 2000 and 2000 / 2001 tournaments respectively.
