Division One Preview.

Pontypool lead Division One by three points from the chasing trio of Carmarthen Quins, Narberth and Aberavon and will stay ahead if they defeat fellow Gwent club Cross Keys at Pontypool Park.

Keys are likely to be boosted by the loan signing of former Wales skipper Kingsley Jones from Pontypridd and also have the services of two South African players in their pack. Pontypool have been without their influential former Wales forward Mark Jones recently following a broken arm and they will be hoping to get back to winning ways following their first defeat of the season at Glamorgan Wanderers last week.

The Wanderers face a tough match away to Bedwas, who are blowing hot and cold so far. Hemi Taylor still is an inspiration for the Cardiff-based club, with Jason Pocock kicking splendidly.

Aberavon will be favourites to beat Beddau at the Talbot Athletic Ground, but Narberth will face a hard match at Tondu, where the home side have re-signed Paul Morgan from Carmarthen Quins.

At the bottom of the table, Rumney and Treorchy – both pointless – meet at Riverside Park in what will be a close encounter. The home side hope to have fly-halves Tommy Price and Matthew Spencer fit, but are still requiring a solid tight-head prop forward.

Carmarthen Quins scored 39 tries in six matches but only two in their last two outings. They will go to Tredegar, where most sides are hard-pressed to win.

Whitland’s improved form could continue against Newbridge, where the opposing kickers a deadly pair in Dan Griffiths and Jason Williams and Bonymaen will face another huge kicker in Blackwood’s Martin Jones, while fly half Stuart Davies has a groin injury and replacement Gareth Jones has moved to Llandovery.

Llandovery’s side to meet Llanharan will be without Rhodri Gomer Davies, the former Wales Youth flier, whose progress at Loughborough University is being monitored by nearby Leicester Tigers.
