PHS have signed a three-year deal, which together with Sportsmatch is worth over £100,000 making it the biggest sponsorship deal in the history of women’s sport in Wales.

PHS, who sponsored the WWRU last season, were awarded the coveted ‘Sponsor of the Year’ award owing to their commitment to the Women’s Welsh Rugby Union. The business services company, based in Caerphilly, have now pledged their support for at least the next three years with this new deal.

Sports Council for Wales Chairman Gareth Davies said “Sportsmatch Cymru aims to encourage commercial investment into grass roots sport by doubling the benefit to both the sponsor and the sport through ‘£ for £’ match funding. This is the largest sponsorship deal aimed specifically at women and girls ever matched by the scheme and an excellent example of how business and sport can work together for mutual benefit”

“The Sportsmatch Cymru funds allow the Women’s Welsh Rugby Union to facilitate the development of female rugby at grass roots level within our schools, local clubs and communities – a true testimony to the success of the scheme” explains Davies.

Cardiff Rugby Club have also signed a deal with the WWRU to provide the venue for all three home Six Nations games. The deal will see Wales run out against England, Ireland and Spain at the Cardiff Arms Park this Spring.

Bob Norster Chief Executive of Cardiff RFC commented, “Cardiff Rugby Club are looking forward to supporting the Welsh women’s team in the New Year. We recognise this as one of the fastest growing areas of Welsh rugby and are delighted to add our support to their Six Nations campaign.”

The Hanover International Hotel group has also signed a one-year contract worth £20,000. The deal makes the Hanover International Hotel in Cardiff Bay the home hotel for the national squad. The Squad used the hotel and facilities last season for several of their internationals and the WWRU are delighted that they have continued their support this season.

Regional Manager, Gwyn Jones commented, “The Hanover International Hotel and Club in Cardiff are delighted to be associated with the Welsh Women’s Rugby Union and we are looking forward to giving them our full support in their challenges over the next season, and indeed, beyond.”
