Voyle Back In Pack

Voyle Back In Pack

Wales lock Mike Voyle takes over from fellow international Ian Gough in the second row for Newport for their Heineken Cup trip to London Irish on Sunday (kick-off 3.00pm).
Voyle missed last week’s game at Rodney Parade, which Newport won 16-12, due to a back injury, but is one of five changes to the starting line-up for the visit to the Madejski Stadium this weekend.
All the changes are in the pack as Newport coaches Leigh Jones and Richard Hill give their back division a vote of confidence. There is a completely new front row, Voyle moves into the second row and Joe Powell takes over from last weekend’s Heineken Man of the Match Jason Forster in the back row.
A calf strain injury sustained in the victory over the Irish has ruled out former Springbok prop Adrian Garvey and Welsh international Chris Anthony takes over on the tight head side of the front row. Ceri Jones replaces Rod Snow at loose head and Paul Young comes in at hooker in place of James Richards.
“We are looking to build on last weekend’s success with another good performance in Reading. We will be travelling with greater confidence and looking to do the double,” said Newport Rugby team manager Jim McCreedy.
“Mike Voyle has fully recovered from his back strain and is ready for a game, while the other changes have been brought about because of the fine performances the players have been putting in during training.
“There is a much more competitive feel to the Newport squad now that we have almost got rid of our injury worries. Wings Ben Breeze and Andrew Wagstaff still have long term problems, but even David Llewellyn is getting back to match fitness.
“Last weekend’s result was the boost everyone at the club needed. Now it is a question of carrying on the good work.”
