Christmas Message From Glanmor Griffiths

Christmas Message From Glanmor Griffiths

As chairman of the WRU general committee, I would like to wish everyone connected with Welsh rugby a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Next year is going to be a vitally important one for us all at home and abroad.

The action on the pitch starts with the Royal Bank of Scotland Six Nations Championship in February, when we visit Italy. We tour in Australia and New Zealand in June, entertain England for the second time in a year at the Millennium Stadium in August and then return to Australia for the Rugby World Cup in October.

Off the field, our new Group Chief Executive David Moffett is working with the clubs to reduce the number of teams in our top flight and is gearing up our game for a massive change in administration in the summer when the WRU general committee will be changed to a Board of Directors of 18.

David will chair an executive committee of staff members who will be responsible for the day to day running of the Union‘s business. These are the changes that the clubs voted for and that our game has needed for some time.

There are some great rugby matches to enjoy over the festive period and on the first weekend of the New Year Neath will host Cardiff in the semi-finals of the Celtic League. I wonder which one of those two great clubs will reach the final at the Millennium Stadium on 1 February and meet either Munster or Ulster?

Best wishes to you all.
