Quins Pip Wizards In Principality Cup

Carmarthen Quins edged the battle of the Division One heavyweights with a 13-12 victory over Aberavon in the Sixth Round of the Principality Cup.
It turned into a nightmare afternoon for Wizards kicker Jamie Davies who missed four easy chances to put his side into the last 16, including a last-minute penalty attempt that was well within range.
Wing Josh Freeman crossed for Quins in the opening half and Giles Thomas converted and added a penalty. Aberavon stormed back in the second half with tries by Kristian Owen and Lee Abdul
with Davies finally managing to put the ball between the posts for a conversion.
Thomas had no problems at the other end and slotted over a penalty in the second half to secure the win.
Caerphilly, the only Premier side in at this stage after finishing bottom last season, eased through with a 35-22 victory at Llandovery. Luke Richards provided some of the accurate goal-kicking missing from the Castletown side in recent matches by landing three penalties and converting three of their four tries.
Division Two’s Maesteg gave Pontypool a fright before going out 22-23 at Llynfi Road. Pooler raced into a 17-0 interval lead with tries by Nicky Lloyd and Byron Hayward who finished the match with 15 points by adding two conversions and a brace of penalties.
Maesteg wing Neil Dixon bagged a pair of tries, Grant Epton and Richard Morgan also crossed but the home side had a glorious chance to snatch victory when Epton fired a long-range penalty wide of the posts in the final minute.
Division Five Central side Nantymoel had not tasted defeat for over a year but the difference in class told when they came up against Division One side Bedwas who easily won 33-12 with wing Nathan Hill crossing for a brace of tries.
Bonymaen go through after beating Beddau 22-8 and Cross Keys owed their 25-18 win over Whitland to Gethin Worgan who slotted over five penalties. Newbridge were too strong for Narberth and two tries by Gareth Turner helped them to a 34-15 victory over the Otters.
