Uncapped full back Brett Davey was the Pontypridd hero in both the semi-final win over Cardiff and the final defeat of Llanelli.
In the semi, he scored with eight penalty goals and a conversion of a Mefin Davies try to give his side a 31-25 victory and in the final he kept his nerve to kick the winning penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Davey had dreamt that such a kick would be offered to him and he had placed four earlier goals, in addition to claiming his side’s try from centre Sonny Parker’s break.
The Scarlets won their semi-final against Ebbw Vale by 34-17 at the Millennium Stadium, despite being down 11-10 at the interval. They scored four tries and fly half Stephen Jones kicked 14 points.
In front of 41,000 for the final, Llanelli scored a try by centre Leigh Davies, but he later left the field with injury, while Jones landed a penalty hat-trick and a drop goal.
Llanelli had won the Premiership title and previously won the cup on 11 occasions, while Pontypridd lifted the cup for the second time in five appearances.
Pontypool had knocked out Swansea by 16-14 in Round Eight, before going down with glory at home to Ebbw Vale in a quarter-final, while Aberavon went close at home to Cardiff before losing 24-16 in Round Seven and Cardiff in turn knocked out Newport 20-14 in the quarters, thanks to a piece of Robert Howley magic.
