This Sunday sees the first round of the new Super League kicking off at Llandovery RFC.

With last season’s 6 teams now condensed in to 4, the playing talent in Wales is really fighting for national squad recognition.

The 4 regions – East, Central, West and North Wales – meet over 6 rounds of fixtures during September and December as the WWRU look to bridge the gap between domestic and international rugby.

North face East in the first game at 1pm followed by West v Central at 3pm. Both games will be keenly fought contests as players look to make their mark in front of the selectors.

All Welsh Exiles are back to play in this tournament with Senior Exiles like Non Evans, Claire Flowers and Jamie Kift turning out for the Central and Louise Rickard and Rhian Williams for the East.

Potential younger talent look out for could include Wales U19 captain Eirlys Lougher (West), Hannah Szigetvari (Central) and Elen Evans (North).

With this four team tournament being reciprocated at U19, U16 and U13 levels across Wales, this seasons Super League is the real focus of all development work in Wales.

Richard Hodges said: “We are all really looking forward to Sunday. Most squads met in mid June to work on their fitness and skills so we hope and expect to see many new and old faces in the melting pot for National Squads selection pre Six Nations.”
