Wood Signs For Cross Keys

Greg Woods, the 23-years-old Cardiff hooker, has returned to the club he used to run out with as a mascot, by signing for Cross Keys and is expected to make his debut for the Gwent club at the end of the month.

Woods, who often took the field with the Keys team prior to the start of a match, is from nearby Cwmcarn, having started as a prop forward by skippering Wales under-16s in 1997 victories over Portugal and England.

From Cwmcarn Comprehensive School he began the 1997-98 season as a replacement for Wales Senior Schools, coming on against Wales Youth, France, England and Ireland, before making his first start against The powerful Australian Schools in 1999 and continuing against France, but being a replacement against Ireland.

In Youth rugby he had represented Wales against Romania in 1998, following with FIRA World Cup appearances against England, Argentina, South Africa and New Zealand in the final. A further cap came for the Under-19 Youth side against Italy in 1999.

He led Cardiff to the Wales Youth Cup final in 2000, defeating Llanelli 18-6 at the Millennium Stadium, but was switched by the club to a role as hooker. However, his last match was for Cardiff against Swansea at the Arms Park in April last year, but has been sidelined by a spinal injury.

Woods will fill a place in the Keys squad that was empty after Kevin Lewisbroke his ankle earlier in the season.
