This week is Round 14 of the Celtic League, and a pivotal weekend for Mike Ruddock’s Dragons.

The region touted by many as this season’s would be strugglers have proved to be a serious competitor in the Celtic League, and are in prime position to wrestle the Celtic crown away from Ireland for the first time in its three-year history.

For that to become a reality, this weekend is crucial. Current table toppers Ulster head to the fortress that is Rodney Parade for a crunch tie.

The Dragons are unbeaten at home in the Celtic League, and a large crowd is expected to be the sixteenth man to give the home side the edge.

The Warriors have Neil Jenkins -as effective as a sixteenth man. In the middle of the hottest goal-kicking streak on record, the 32 year-old former Lion has steered his team to five wins in a row, and into the top third of the division.

Ever modest, the Valley’s lad compared his 44 kicks in a row to ‘a postman delivering 44 letters in a row,’ – Neil, we know different. Jenkins was instrumental in the Warriors in over Leinster at Donnybrook last weekend.

Speculation is rife about the future of Scarlets coach Gareth Jenkins, but he has a job to do with the Scarlets this season if he is to leave a lasting legacy at Stradey Park.

Lying second in the table, the Scarlets’ opponents this week are the Warriors – an acid test of each side’s abilities. Watch it live on BBC2 Wales.

Another Welsh side on the up are The Blues. Three wins in a row has seen them rise up the division, and have a match against The Borders they will be expecting to win this weekend.

The Ospreys, who earlier in the season lost ten in a row, are also on a winning run, but could find it a step to far against Munster and Christian Cullen.
