Wales 7 – 12 Spain

Wales brought the curtain down on their Six Nations campaign with a disappointing result against Spain at Cardiff RFC on Saturday night.

Hopes were high after proud performances against both England and France but as with the French game, Wales found themselves 12-0 down before the game had really got going for them.

Impressive fly half Ines Etxegibel ensured her kicking game kept Wales pinned in their own half for the first 30 minutes and this pressure was turned in to points with two well taken tries, the second from scrum half Isabel Rodriguez.

Wales were a different team in the second half and dominated from beginning to end. Captain Melissa Berry set off on a fifty yard run to set up replacement flanker Esther Eckley with her first international try.

Wales spent the last ten minutes on the Spanish line but the visitors defended heroically. It looked like Wales had engineered the vital second score with the last move of the game as the hard working Rhian Williams put full back Elen Evans clear but her pass to Manon Williams went to ground as the referee blew for full time.

Wales finish 5th in the table and now turn their attentions to the European Championships in Toulouse at the end of April.
