Ruddock backs his stars

Mike Ruddock says Wales are ‘ready, willing and able’, should any of their players’ presence be required on the Lions Tour in New Zealand.

Wales leave for North America on Friday to prepare for their two-Test tour against Canada and the US Eagles. A handful of the squad who missed out on Lions selection; lock Brent Cockbain for example, have been put on stand-by to join Woodward’s squad if required. Because of the physical demands of touring in New Zealand, Ruddock said he would not be surprised if some of his players got the call.

“The guys are ready and fit and strong and available,” Ruddock told BBC Sport. “There has been a history of players joining the Lions late from Wales, some have joined from America in the pastl; people like Ian Stephens joined the Lions from a Wales North American tour, so you never know.”
