CELTIC LEAGUE NEW YEAR FEAST

Club graphic

There are three games on Saturday with Leinster looking to build on their excellent win in Belfast when the leaders Munster travel to the RDS. Meanwhile Ulster will be looking to bounce back from that defeat when they travel to Connacht. The men from the west are now nine points adrift at the foot of the table and Ulster know that with Edinburgh Gunners guaranteed four points for the ‘free weekend’ a win will be vital in the battle at the top where only two points separate second, third and fourth places.

Also on Saturday Glasgow Warriors will be looking to close the gap on the top four when they travel to Netherdale to face the Reivers – although the home side will be able to leapfrog their neighbours should they continue their fine home form against Scottish sides as they have won four of their last five home games against either the Warriors or the Gunners.

On New Year’s Day the Ospreys will be back in action after last Wednesday’s postponement and travel to the Newport Gwent Dragons with both sides looking for a much needed win. The omens point to the Dragons however, with the home side having taken the victory in every meeting between the two regional sides in the past.

The round is completed on Monday when a hopefully frost free Stradey Park sees the Cardiff Blues face the Llanelli Scarlets. Only two points separate the sides – with the Blues currently the highest placed Welsh side in the league. They come into the fixture on a four game winning streak, although the Scarlets are also in good form with four wins from their last five games in all competitions.
