STEPHEN JONES RETURNS TO SCARLETS

STEPHEN JONES RETURNS TO SCARLETS

“We always hoped it would be case of au revoir rather than goodbye and that has proved to be the case,” said Chief Executive Stuart Gallacher. “Stephen was a key member of our squad from the time he joined as an 18 year-old until his departure for France at the end of the 2003/04.  Since then he has continued to mature as a player as we have seen with Wales and the British Lions.”

The Scarlets have very ambitious plans and believe the three-year commitment from Jones will play a big part in realising them. “We are building one of the most exciting back divisions in Europe,” said Stuart.  “We are also moving into our new purpose-built stadium with state-of-the-art training facilities for the 2007/08 season.”

“I know Steve is excited about our plans and that played a major part in his decision to come back to us.” Stephen comes on a 3-year playing contract which will take him past the 2007 World Cup. He rejoins a Scarlets squad that is going from strength to strength.  They are in the Powergen Anglo Welsh semi final and are contesting for the Celtic League title.

“We are coming into form now,” said Gallacher.  “And although Stephen’s commitment is great news we now need to remain focused on this season.”

Stephen, who is currently playing for Clermont Auvergne in France, will return to the Scarlets for pre-season training in the summer.
