Bonymaen travelled to second-placed Newbridge, despatching them 27-12, and more good news was to follow when the scores began drifting in from around the country. Third-placed Cwmllynfell lost 25-8 at UWIC, and fourth-placed Whitland could manage only a 22-all draw at home to Blackwood.

Lock Gavin Evans scored a brace of tries in Bonymaen’s victory, with scrum-half Adrian Killa continuing his fine run of scoring with another five-pointer. Newbridge were in touch when they trailed only 8-7 at halftime, but the red-hot title favourites moved up several gears in the second spell.

UWIC were never in danger of losing to a disappointing Cwmllynfell outfit, with outside-half Nathan Hopkins banging over four goals to cement the Students’ position in the top half of the table.

Whitland needed outside-half Aled Davies to be at his best to snatch a draw against Blackwood. Davies score two tries and kicked three goals to earn a share of the points, with wingers David James and Greg Davies and fullback Christian Perry dotting down for the visitors.

At the other end of the table, Fleur De Lys and Ystrad Rhondda both recorded their third wins of the season. Fleur beat Narberth 25-10, despite trailing 10-7 after 50 minutes, while Ystrad Rhondda won an entertaining match against Llanharan 31-22.

Winger Dave John scored two tries for Ystrad Rhondda, with outside-half Dylan Jones adding six goals to hold off Llanharan’s second-half comeback.

Llangennech bagged a morale-boosting victory at home, their 16-10 result over former Premiership side Caerphilly coming from a Chris Davies try and 11 points from the boot of Mark Jones.

Outside-half Nathan Walters, left winger Huw Williams and centre Rhys Jenkins all bagged try doubles in Beddau’s 54-12 hammering of Builth Wells, while Merthyr pounded Waunarlwydd 42-5.
