The result of the weekend came in Division Three East, with Risca ending a run of 15 straight losses with a 27-20 win over Rhymney. Winger Gregg Plant scored a hat-trick of tries for Rhymney, but Risca’s pack dominated the set pieces, and tries to Alex Williams, Richard Evans and Lee Llewellyn gave the home side their first points of the season. At the top of the table, Abergavenny’s 34-6 mauling of Old Illtydians gives them a nine-point buffer over Senghenydd, who were surprise 24-18 losers at Cwmbran.

Division Three South East leaders Treherbert were made to fight all the way before escaping Tonyrefail with a 12-11 victory. Tonyrefail’s Rhudian Lewis scored the only try of the match, but Gareth Roberts’s four penalty goals gave the visitors all the points.

Garndiffaith lock Matthew Billings scored a brace of tries in the Division Four East front-runners’ 25-12 win over Tredegar Ironsides, while second-placed St Peters returned from Chepstow with a 46-27 victory.

Penallta beat Penarth 23-15 in a top-of-the-table Division Four South East match, while bottom-placed Dinas Powys crashed to their 14th straight loss – 27-3 at home to Cilfynydd.

Unbeaten Machen are looking comfortable at the top of the Division Five East table after their 13th straight win – 36-10 at St Josephs, and their cause was helped by second-placed Blaenavon’s 12-8 loss at Abertillery BG, thanks to four Dean Thomas penalty goals.

Division Five South East cellar dwellers Ogmore Vale and Old Penarthians couldn’t score a point between them at the weekend, with Old Pens losing 67-0 to unbeaten table-toppers Porth and Vale going down 37-0 at home to Pontyclun.
