SCARLETS SOUTH OVERTURN THE DRAGONS

SCARLETS SOUTH OVERTURN THE DRAGONS

Scarlets South fielded their most experienced team of the season to date with debutants Celt Thomas (flanker) and Aled Thomas (outside half) both of Whitland opening the scoring when Thomas seized a missed channelled lineout ball by the Dragons and crashed over in the corner, a try which was converted superbly from the touchline by Davies. However, the Dragons fought their way back into the game with two penalties from the boot of outside half Jamie Howells and it took a mammoth effort from the Scarlets defence to keep their lead and the amateur Dragons side at bay.

The second half followed in similar fashion with both teams playing a wide, expansive game, but it was the Scarlets who once again opened the scoring with a try from outside half Davies, which he dually converted. However, it was a missed opportunity which followed, with a failed penalty which would have given the Scarlets a bit more breathing space. And the Dragons took full advantage, finding themselves back in the game courtesy of a try from replacement centre Phil Price, which was converted by Howells. The result – a tense finale in a hard fought fixture in which the Scarlets held out to a 14 – 13 victory.

Scarlets South will now be looking to continue their winning form at the Corus Ground, Port Talbot on Monday evening (February 27th), kick off 7.15pm, as they come face to face with the Ospreys.
