CAERPHILLY v RTB EBBW VALE

CAERPHILLY v RTB EBBW VALE

Caerphilly played to their strengths in the first quarter using the backline at every opportunity keeping the ball away from the bigger RTB forwards resulting in two excellent individual tries by scrum half Paris Nicholas, one of which was converted by Sophie Davies.

However, with Caerphilly opting for passive scrums from the start, the RTB forwards concentrated on the line-out and with second row Emily Jones winning plenty of clean possession, they were able to take advantage.  A well executed move saw hooker Kirsty Harrison peel around the line-out bursting through three tackles to score.

Half time score – Caerphilly 12  RTB 5

In the second half, the RTB pack, well shepherded by livewire scrum half Emily Smith, used their ball carriers to test the Caerphilly defence.  They released the backs for centre Paige Portman to make a break and pass back inside for Rachel Jones to score.  Michaela Arnold converted.

Going into the final quarter, Caerphilly made several changes but RTB kept their focus resulting in Rachel Jones attacking the blindside from a scrum thirty metres out to score her second try five minutes before the final whistle.

Final score – Caerphilly 12  RTB 17
