If they could secure seventh place, one better than last year’s effort in Argentina., it would be an achievement in itself. After all, Argentina are ranked fifth and have already run close Australia as well as beating Wales and Ireland in their pool matches. Whilst Wales lost their 5th-8th play off game 13-11 to England at Stade Louis Darragon on Wednesday, Argentina lost 42-20 to Ireland in their 6th-7th place match at the same venue in Vichy.
That defeat against England was particularly cruel for Wales considering they dominated the contest for all but the final 10 minutes when a converted try from prop David Wilson broke Welsh hearts.
“It was disappointing to have gone down in the manner that we did, although we have a chance to put things right tomorrow,” said Davey. “Hopefully we can take whatever chances come our way this time and finish with a win that the boys deserve.
“We know all about them from having met them seven days ago. They are powerful at forward and they have some good runners behind. Having said that, so do we and we would love to put the record straight after losing so narrowly last weekend.”
Davey has made three changes to the side beaten by England – Dafydd Lockyer, Martin Roberts and Chris Dicomidis come into the starting line up at the expense of Tom Cheeseman, Nicky Griffiths and the injured Rob McCusker.
