WRU hits the road

WRU hits the road

It will be the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in rugby to ask questions and find out about rugby in their area. After the Urdd Eisteddfod, the roadshow will also visit the Royal Welsh Show and the National Eisteddfod as part of the WRU’s commitment to spread the message of community rugby.

Starting on Monday, WRU development officers will be running rugby skills sessions twice daily in the sports arena, while visitors to the trailer will find information on all elements of community rugby including refereeing and women’s and girls’ rugby. There will be competitions and interactive games, and a range of WRU merchandise on sale.

Wales’s Invesco Perpetual Summer Series is just around the corner and on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, fans will be able to get their tickets for the two Millennium Stadium games – Wales v Argentina on August 18th and Wales v France on August 26th – on sale from just £10 for children and £20 for adults.

WRU international referee Nigel Owens will be on hand to discuss the laws of the game and members of Konica Minolta Cup winning team Llandovery will be on hand to help out with rugby skills sessions.

WRU Group Chief Executive, Roger Lewis, is very positive about the contribution the WRU’s roadshow will have: “As a Union, we have made it our business to focus on community rugby as a vital part of our game. It is important to get out into the community and we are thrilled this year to be attending the Urdd Eisteddfod in Carmarthen, along with the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd at the end of July and the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol in Mold in August.

“Children are the future and the Urdd Eisteddfod gives us the opportunity to teach some rugby skills to the children present at the Maes next week and to communicate with children and adults from around Wales.

“There will be lots going on all week with and I’m sure fans will also be pleased that they can pick up tickets for our exciting Summer Series matches against France and Argentina as Gareth Jenkins’s side finalise their preparations for the World Cup.”
