A magnificent 20-point haul from Lawrence saw Pontypool maintain their perfect start to the season with a 35-13 win over Bargoed.
The points-machine scored a fine try in addition to slotting six kicks at goal in the victory while centre Nathan Preece, winger Richard Dennington and scrum half Andrew Quick completed the bonus-point win.
Pooler’s closest rivals Caerphilly also continued their early season form with a 30-18 victory over UWIC. After trailing 15-8 at the break through two tries for UWIC flanker Guy Thompson, the Cheesemen were a different side in the second-half with winger Steffan Sankala and replacement scrum-half Rob Phillips scoring tries, to add to Alun Ford’s first-half effort, and they secured a bonus point deep into injury time through incessant pressure at a five metre scrum that resulted in a penalty try.
Elsewhere there was an impressive win for Rumney who came through 20-13 at Beddau, a hard-fought 12-9 triumph for Blackwood against basement boys Fleur De Lys and an equally tough win for Newbridge who pipped Llantrisant 10-8.
Llanharan will be kicking themselves after surrendering an 18-3 lead to eventually lose 20-18 at home to Newport Saracens.
