Despite trailing 15-12 to an outstanding Dragons side at Gowerton, the holders fought back to make up for the U20s defeat in Thursday’s final against the Blues.
Ospreys High Performance Manager Dai Arthur said, “The players have done well all season, but we have got to give a special mention to the coaching team of Phil John, Andrew Millward and Gethin Watts.
“They have turned this side into a very good unit and although the Dragons pushed us all the way, especially in the first half, we were good value for the win.
“I would also give a special mention to the work our Fitness Coach Jason Larkman has put in. It is the first season we have used a fitness coach and I think our second half performance showed how fit these boys are.”
Tries from wing Ieuan Coombes and hooker Craig Atwell put the Dragons in the driving seat before half-time whilst Danny Ellis added a conversion and penalty for good measure.
Tries from Powell and Beck, plus a Matthew Jarvis conversion kept the Ospreys in touch and when the first half try scorers repeated the dose in the second half, the holders were home and dry.
Dragons Team Manager Billy Vyvian said, “The loss of Stuart Maguire in the week was a blow to us, but I thought we stood up to them well. It was a decent first half, but we faded as they got stronger in the second.”
The focus will now turn to the U16 competition which, after victories for Blues South and the Scarlets last week, has thrown the race for the final wide open.
