The Group Chief Executive of the WRU, Roger Lewis, said: “A series of meetings with representatives of the Regions have led to the creation of a draft Participation Agreement document which is now being finalised.

“Following our latest meeting with the Regions last week we are now completing the draft which covers all the priorities we have agreed on to date.

“This substantial body of work runs to more than 100 pages and will be finished over the coming few days before being shared with the WRU Board and then the Regions. At that stage we will seek to debate and finalise the detail with them before all parties can sign up to the agreement which will begin on June the 1st 2009.

“It is important for me to explain that timeline now because there has been a flurry of unfortunate comment which we know has created confusion for many people.

“I want the rugby public of Wales to note that we will not be distracted from achieving a Participation Agreement which will operate as an effective and exciting roadmap to take our game forward and make it stronger.”
