Inquest verdict on Neath player

A verdict of accidental death has been recorded at the inquest in Cardiff of the Neath scrum half, Gareth Jones.

The 28-year-old died at the University Hospital of Wales two months after being seriously injured playing for his club team against Cardiff in a Principality Premiership fixture on April the 20th 2008.

The inquest heard how Jones was injured at a ruck by what Coroner Mary Hassell described as a ‘tragic accident.’

Gareth Jones was a product of Coed-y-Llan Comprehensive School and grew up in Glyncoch where he played for the local youth team and senior side before moving to Beddau, Pontypridd and then Neath.

He helped Pontypridd win the Konica Minolta Cup while a Sardis Road player and helped Neath achieve the Principality Premiership crown in his first season at The Gnoll.
