A spokesperson for the Welsh Rugby Union said that the demand was unprecedented with sales for the match now having reached 45,000 which ensures the four match autumn series will be watched live by more than a quarter of a million Millennium Stadium fans.

Gatland has named a new-look side for the showdown against Canada who proved stubborn opponents when the two teams met in last year’s World Cup. Only captain Ryan Jones, rookie winger Leigh Halfpenny and centre Tom Shanklin retain their places with Scarlets scrum half Martin Roberts set to make his debut.

The international against Canada kicks off at 7.30pm on Friday with the remaining tickets for sale at £10 for juniors and £15 for adults.

Tickets can be ordered by phone from Ticketmaster on 08705 582582 or supporters can call Ticketline on 02920 230130 or call into their Westgate Street, Cardiff shop in person.
