On Friday February 13th – the eve of the Wales v England RBS Six Nations clash in Cardiff, past players from the two nations will go ‘head-to-head’ in a Legends match and raise awareness of the work of St David’s Foundation.

The match will take place at the Welfare Ground – home of Newbridge RFC, and the teams will be led by former Wales League and Union international Adrian Hadley, and former Gloucester and British Lion rugby player Steve Boyle.

Past Welsh players supporting the event include Paul Turner, Robert Jones, John Devereux and Rowland Phillips, while the English team boasts an impressive array of international talent including Peter Winterbottom, Mike Teague and Ben Clark.

Adrian Hadley, captain of the Welsh team said: “St David’s Foundation provides fantastic hospice support for people and families going through life-threatening illnesses.

“This match is a way of the rugby community offering something back to the charity by recognising the tireless work of staff and volunteers.

“Newbridge RFC has kindly agreed to host the Legends match and already a number of individuals and business have expressed interest in getting involved. Wales and England have a traditional rugby rivalry yet also have a common purpose in ensuring the sport has a positive impact on the lives of others.”

Steve Boyle, captain of the England team commented: “Having owned the Three Salmons Hotel in Usk for the last two years, I am aware of the excellent work of the St David’s Foundation. I am pleased to lead the England team for the Legends match and I’m sure it will provide a great curtain raiser for the Six Nations game the following day.”

The Legends match will be preceded by a range of other community events aimed at raising awareness of the charity and encouraging young people to become more involved in sport.

Organisers are seeking local businesses or interested individuals to support the Legends match by offering a range of attractive sponsorship and partnership packages.
