Blackwood was buzzing after the second place side thrashed Beddau 71-10. Brothers David and Trevor James both scored a pair of tries each from the wing, with centre Gareth Price, who also notched a brace, among six other try scorers.
Club spokesman Lyn Hall said: “The win was our biggest since beating Tondu 86-7 six years ago and the way in which we got it was superb. We are playing a very attractive style of rugby that everyone enjoys watching.”
Merthyr also piled on the points as they pummelled Penallta 52-7. Dan Hitchens scored two of the Ironmen’s eight tries.
But Newbridge stay on top of the table after an 18-12 win at Rumney, with Gary Wilks and Ross Coombs scoring tries for the visitors.
Caerphilly fell off the pace at the top as they lost at Llanharan 39-11. Ystrad Rhondda beat Newport Saracens 16-5 while the students from UWIC beat Bargoed 34-24.
An Anthony Evans hat-trick helped Carmarthen Quins on their way to a 14th straight win as they beat Felinfoel 54-21 to stay top of the Division One West table. Neil Wilcox, Jason Harries and Martin Morgan claimed the other tries for ‘Quins who now look certainties for the league titl.
Narberth remain head of the chasing pack with a 16-6 win over Maesteg thanks to tries from Steve Martin and Jonathan Morgan.
Fellow high-flyers Tonmawr suffered a shock 34-5 defeat at the hands of strugglers Bonymaen. Paul Warlow got 19 points from the boot for Bonymaen courtesy of four penalties, two conversions and a drop goal. Nick Harwood, Paul Davis and Jordan Poole got the tries in an outstanding display.
Cwmyllynfell were the big scorers of the day, running in eight tries on course to a 60-12 demolition of bottom side Dunvant. Andy Wilkins was the pick of the scorers with two tries.
Strugglers Llangennech pulled off an upset, beating high-flyers Corus 15-6. Matthew Lemon and Aled Roberts got the tries for the home side in an excellent second half performance. Carmarthen Athletic claimed a 29-18 victory over Whitland.
