And the Scarlets and Llanelli scrum-half reckons the excitement surrounding the Rugby World Cup Sevens will bring the best out of the Dragons.

Williams, 22, said: “I normally play at Premiership level but now I’ve played against the likes of New Zealand in the IRB series.

“It’s been a big step but I believe I will rise to the challenge again and hopefully I can do myself justice in Dubai.”

Wales kick off their campaign against Zimbabwe on March 5 in buoyant mood following stunning wins over New Zealand and Fiji in Wellington earlier this month.

Now Williams believes the Three Feathers – ranked seventh in the world rankings – can mount a serious challenge for the world title.

Williams said: “”It’s an honour to play in the World Cup – it’s a massive competition and the players have been preparing for this for the last 12 months.

“There’s been a good development in the last three years and the team’s improved immensely. We’ve got a strong squad and hopefully we can do the nation proud.

“We’ve got a tough group and we must be clinical because if you make one mistake, the other team can score a try. It’s frightening.

“We need to be more consistent. After beating New Zealand, we were on such a high that we then lost to Australia.

“But we’re more than capable of winning our group and possibly reaching the final. We must remain focused and believe in ourselves.”
