The new-look Welsh squad put up a spirited display against sevens kings New Zealand in their opening Pool C clash at Adelaide Oval, but Gordon Teitjens’ men rallied after Wales recovered from a 14-0 halftime deficit to score a well taken try by Will Harries.

But the men in black, who are also in the process of rebuilding their squad under the expert guidance of sevens guru Teitjens, showed their class to counter with two further touchdowns by Julien Savea and Tim Mikkelsons to put the outcome beyond doubt before a final consolation for Jimmy Norris.

Wales tomorrow face big hitting Tonga and USA who will be gunning for revenge after being pipped by a single point in the quarter-finals of the Plate in Hong Kong last week.

The Americans will be confident of upsetting Wales after brushing aside Tonga 17-14 in the other pool match played today. Skipper Kevin Swiryn scored a try with the final play of the match to clinch victory for the Eagles.
