Wales have happy memories of the ground, having beaten Ireland there narrowly in their previous clash in Japan, to advance to this stage.

Wales coach Phil Davies is hoping that the fact that this will be the last time a number of players will be eligible at this age group, they will be wanting to go out with a bang.

“It is Craig Attwell’s first start in a Welsh shirt and everyone is very pleased for him. In addition there are a number of players who are performing for the very last time at this level for Wales prior to moving up into senior rugby. With that in mind the whole squad is very keen to put in a fitting tribute to those players and also to get a 5th place finish at these championships for Wales.”

He added: “We have looked at selection very carefully for this game – it really is an exciting challenge for the team. We have taken into account the fatigue factor and looked to bring energy into the team with a view of trying to find the right balance of players who can give us a sustained effort for the whole 80 minutes, at the end of what has been a very demanding tournament both physically and mentally.

“The 23 selected are the only fit players capable of taking the field, which is a fantastic effort by all the players and staff to keep everyone fit and healthy right to the end.”
