The 20-year-old had targeted the start of the 2011/12 as his opportunity to secure himself a starting berth in the Scarlets midfield.

However on the back of a strong domestic campaign and an impressive summer in the Welsh camp, Williams was named in Warren Gatland’s final 30-man squad for the World Cup earlier this week and he can’t wait for his chance down-under.

“I’m really looking forward to New Zealand and I must admit I don’t think it will really sink in until I step onto that plane,” he said.

“A couple of months ago if you’ve said I would be heading off to a World Cup with Wales, I would be asking what are you talking about?

“These last few months have been unreal and things have happened so quick for me.

“I was just looking ahead to next season at the Scarlets and concentrating on cementing a place in the centre when the boys were away at the World Cup.

“Now all of a sudden I’m going away with them.

“We’ve put so much work into the last few months in training and I don’t think you need me to tell you that. You can see that out on the pitch during these summer games.

“We are much fitter and that can help us win a few games. We can win this group definitely.”

With four appearances under his belt, Williams has enjoyed the start of his International career and believes being an unknown quantity may play into his favour during the tournament.

“I will try my best and going out there being a bit of an unknown quantity to the opposition might work in my favour,” he added.

“Hopefully I can surprise the opposition a bit.

“All this is a bit unreal and I’m living the dream.”
