Coached by Daryl Morgan and Welsh international prop Jenny Davies, Welsh Colleges stormed to gold winning territory with a huge defensive effort proving key as they conceded just two tries from their five games en route to the crown.

Wales coasted to a 38-0 victory over East but had to work considerably harder against Yorkshire & Humber before edging a tight encounter 10-7.

With Coleg Sir Gar’s Beth Jones and Cardiff & Vale’s Sam Morris to the fore, Wales recorded a 15-0 victory over North West and a 15-7 triumph against South East before claiming the title with a 15-0 win over South West.

An ecstatic Davies, enthused: “All the players played extremely well. They all played outstanding and gave their all. I am very proud of each and every one of them.”

Davies, who teaches at Coleg Menai, added: “It’s an honour to be part of the Welsh Colleges set up and a privilege to coach talented individuals. I have no doubt that many of these players will represent the Wales senior 7s and 15s teams and look forward to seeing them grow as players.”
