The Quins had the lion’s share of possession throughout and despite losing scrum half and captain Jacob Flynn through a red card after 20 minutes, the Quins were on top for most of the match.
The Port Talbot based team went into an early lead with a penalty from impressive outside half David Morley.
Following a series of rolling mauls that the Pontypool pack of yore would have been proud of, tries from Dan Helson and Luke Davies and a further penalty by Morley gave Aberavon Quins a 16-0 lead at half time.
Nant Conwy failed to take their chances in the first half but they started strongly in the second period. After a series of attacks that stretched the Quins defence scrum half Dylan Couller glided through the opposition defence. The try was converted by Gruff Fôn and it looked as if the North Wales Champions were going to launch a major challenge.
That challenge however did not materialise as the Quins took their game to another level. Guided by outside half Morley and stand in scrum half Conor O’Callaghan, the starting No 8, the Aberavon team pulled away from Nant Conwy with tries by Dylan McLauchlan and Jack Dacey and a further penalty by Morley to come out winners.
Throughout the afternoon both teams received wonderful support from a sizeable and noisy but respectful crowd. Much to their credit the Nant Conwy supporters had travelled in good numbers to encourage the young tyros from the far North but in the end it was the Aberavon contingent that were singing the “Mighty Quins” to celebrate their team’s triumph.
