The north Wales club is one of 30 grassroots clubs to win a £500 grant to help towards their NatWest RugbyForce project which will take place this year on the weekend of August 15/16.

And now the SSE SWALEC Division One North side will also benefit from a bumper day of festivities to include a visit from former Wales captain Scott Quinnell, a barbecue (weather permitting), a pitch kit and a set of Under Armour training tops with the club logo.

The scheme is designed to help clubs to realise small projects which make a big difference and volunteers are key to the success of every NatWest RugbyForce weekend.

Bala chairman Tony Parry said, “We’re over the moon to have won. We’re a small town but the community has already got behind us by voting for us and we’re expecting a big turnout on August 15.

“The changing rooms in Bala were built 18 years ago when we only ran two teams and we now run nine teams so the usage is immense. The changing rooms have not had a makeover at all in this time. We are going to paint and re-tile the changing rooms and showers and also repair or replace the clothing hooks. This will give the players a lift and it will also help other groups who use the facilities from time to time.

“We are going to make the most of the NatWest RugbyForce day by inviting all our children and parents in the junior section for a registration day and our coaches will organise games so that everyone can enjoy the day. We have a lot of painters, builders and general volunteers at the club so hopefully we can get a lot done too!”

Mark Douglas, NatWest Regional Director for Wales commented: “This the second year of the ‘Win a Pitch Makeover’ competition and it has been fantastic to see local communities getting behind their local rugby club and showing their support. Huge congratulations to Bala but also to all the clubs involved in this year’s competition. Working within NatWest RugbyForce, a community initiative that has provided support to thousands of local rugby clubs since 2009, it demonstrates our commitment to supporting grassroots rugby in local communities across the UK.”
