The former Newport Gwent Dragon moved to the Recreation Ground in 2015, but has struggled to break into Mike Ford’s first XV. Evans will move to the West Wales region at the end of the current campaign, to fill the void left by Rhodri Williams, who is to join Bristol Rugby.
And Evans reckons he will return to the Principality a better player after his time in the West Country.
“Despite not getting as much time on the pitch as I’d like, I do feel I’ve developed as a player since I joined Bath”, said Evans.
“I’m looking forward to challenging for a starting spot at Scarlets next season, and it will be good to be back in Wales, but I’m just focusing on the rest of the season here at Bath and pushing to remain in the matchday squad.”
Evans played in two Under-20 Six Nations and World Junior Championships for Wales, and was the youngest player to represent the Dragons when he was 17. And his new head coach Wayne Pivac is looking forward to welcoming Evans on board at Parc y Scarlets.
“Having been unsuccessful in retaining Rhodri, we were keen to bring someone in with Pro12-level experience,” said Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac.
“We were particularly keen to sign a Welsh qualified player and we’re pleased to have secured the signature of Jonathan’s quality.”
