Gareth Rees helped himself to 19 points as Kidwelly maintained their two point lead at the top of WRU National Division 1 West.

Rees kicked 14 points and joined Chris Eldred as a try scorer in a 24-19 home win over a Waunarlwydd that was reduced to 13 men in the closing stages. Second placed Llanelli Wanderers picked up a significant 21-10 home win over third-place Aberystwyth to open up a seven point gap between the two clubs.

At the other end of the table, a man of the match performance from hooker Marc Jones helped Whitland move out of the relegation zone with a convincing 35-3 win over bottom of the table Loughor. Penclawdd won 39-3 to move above Crymych in the table, while Gorseinon came from behind to earn a 26-11 win against struggling Gowerton.

In Division 1 North, uncontested scrums and a man of the match performance from flanker Michael Downey gave Caernarvon an impressive 47-12 win against Llandudno. Leaders Nant Conwy smashed Abergele 55-0 to move seven points clear at the top.

Patrick Atkinson scored all of Colwyn Bay’s points as they beat Bro Ffestiniog 19-17. Despite leading at half time, COBRA lost at home to Pwllheli 28-12, while Bala earned a 7-3 win at Ruthin and Bethesda claimed victory in a 24-12 home win against Mold.

Penallta had 10 points from Bridgend Ravens star Joe Scrivens to go with tries from Elliot Keep and Lloyd Rowlands to thank for becoming the first team to beat Rhydyfelin in Division 1 East. Their 23-17 home win cut the gap between the two clubs to 10 points with third placed Penallta having a game in hand.

Nelson were able to make the most of Rhydyfelin’s defeat by moving two points clear at the top of the table with a 23-15 triumph at Risca. Elsewhere, Brecon smashed struggling Senghenydd 62-10, while bottom-placed Nantyglo lost 28-22 at Caerleon. Tries from Luke Morgan and Kurtis Haile weren’t enough to secure the win for Abertillery as they drew 20-20 with Blaenavon, while Brynamwr beat Ynysybwl 17-0.

Treorchy won the battle of the top two teams in Division 1 East Central as they went to Mountain Ash and triumphed 22-15 to move 10 points clear. Josh Clark and Jacob Lloyd scored tries for the visitors, who also picked up a penalty try, while Will Holley scored all the points for Mountain Ash, including two tries.

An Aron Clarke hat-trick helped Ystrad Rhondda to a 77-14 win at Llantwit Fadre, while Dave Smith scored two tries as Rhiwbina thrashed Cardiff Quins 32-0. Llanharan picked up a sixth win of the campaign as they beat St Joseph’s 19-14 and Rumney won 26-7 at Dowlais.

Aberavon Quins maintained their title chase in Division 1 West Central with a 16-15 win at Ammanford, but league leaders Bonymaen came up with five tries from Laurence Thomas, Kyle Salter, Ian Brooks, Nathan Eager and Tristan Herdman to secure a bonus-point win at struggling Kenfig Hill to open up a two-point gap at the top with a 31-5 victory.
