Sioned Harries and Alisha Butchers attacked the line well and created momentum for Wales. The set piece was well executed and dominated the Scotland pack. Rachel Taylor put some big hits in and ensured Scotland were aware of her presence.
After this I am unsure what happened! Throughout the game Scotland played with their hearts on their sleeves and in some areas played some exciting rugby. They demonstrated determination throughout and played rugby in the right areas.
They were composed throughout and even when they were 14-0 down, they displayed belief and certainty that they could still win. For this I am in awe, as they demonstrated maturity and the ability to play for each other. Their hard work over the past seven years has paid off and they are on the right track to achieve even more success.
Wales on the other hand didn’t turn up in the second half. There were a couple of positive points with a few line breaks, two of which were from Elen Evans and Dyddgu Hywel and the team defended well in certain areas. They also demonstrated how effective their driving lineouts are.
Wales will rebuild and several members need to have a look at their performance and put their hands up. For me, Wales are not playing as a team and this was displayed at the weekend, when they had several chances to score but decided to take the ball into contact, rather than put their team mates into space.
I would have liked to have seen the backs run with the ball more, as we have a dangerous back-line but they were not used. Instead we decided to kick back into Scotland’s hands which was a strength for them.
Decision making and execution needs to be a priority to work-on, if this is improved then there is hope against Ireland and France.
