Jones urges fans to raise the roof for Ospreys

Ryan Jones is calling on Welsh rugby supporters to get behind the Ospreys ahead of their European quarter-final against Stade Francais Paris at Principality Stadium this weekend.

The Ospreys, who qualified for the last eight with a perfect record, take on the French opposition under a closed roof at the home of Welsh rugby on Sunday (kick-off 5.45pm).

The former Wales and Ospreys captain will be among the thousands of families expected to attend and is urging the whole nation to join him and get behind the region.

“Welsh people should definitely get behind them. We have got to embrace and celebrate the fact it’s something different,” said the WRU’s Head of Rugby Participation.

“It’s the way we consume sport now. People like the big one-off occasion and it’s an opportunity for people to watch a region play in our national stadium in a genuinely meaningful must-win fixture.

“It’s fantastic. I’ll be there and I’ll be taking the family because it will be a great day out for people from all the regions to come and support. It’s a flag-waving opportunity to put a marker down.”

The Ospreys remain in contention for a league and European double and Jones, who led the Ospreys to Celtic League glory, believes Steve Tandy’s men have the ability to end the campaign with a trophy.

“They are certainly going to be in contention for the Pro12. What I love is they have got a real identity and people who are stepping up and performing week-in, week-out. They are also playing a fantastic brand of rugby. They have evolved under Steve Tandy and he must be commended for it.”

He added: “Europe is a different challenge but, if they keep playing the way they are, I can see them winning it.”

Tickets to support the Ospreys – two weeks before all four regions return for Judgement Day V – are on sale priced at £10 for adults and £5 for U16s via ospreysrugby.com/buytickets and to personal callers at ticket office in the Liberty Stadium and WRU Shop between gates 3 and 4 of Principality Stadium.
