Home comforts for Ospreys star Biggar

Wales fly-half Dan Biggar is hoping the familiar surroundings of Principality Stadium can help his Ospreys team reach the semi-finals of this season’s European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Steve Tandy’s side face French giants Stade Francais at the home of Welsh rugby in Cardiff.

Biggar knows all about the venue for his team’s quarter-final tie as a Wales international.

He said: “A few of us have played quite a lot of rugby at Principality Stadium in the last few years.

“It’s certainly familiar – it’s not like we’re going to a completely strange place. We’re a young squad and we’ve done well this season, but some of the boys won’t have done is play at the Principality Stadium against world-class opposition.

“It’s a real test for us and something I’m really looking forward to. It’s about how we respond to that challenge.”

The Ospreys qualified from the pool stages with an impressive maximum points tally of 30.

For head coach Tandy, the challenge now is to take on French giants Stade who in the likes of captain Sergio Parisse and scrum-half Will Genia, possesses some of the world’s best players.

It means Biggar, who has been excellent for club and country this season, in no doubts about the scale of the challenge that is heading his way.

It should make for an entertaining encounter in the Welsh capital.

“The only thing we can control as rugby players and coaches is what goes on in between the white lines. Whether it’s 10,000 or 15,000 there in a 75,000-seater stadium or whether we’re in a different ground to normal, we can’t control those things,” he said.

“It’s totally different to the pool stages, there’s no getting away from that.

“We’re playing a top-class team and we’re fully aware that it’s a different animal this weekend with the size and the history they have.”

Tickets to support the Ospreys – two weeks before all four regions return for Judgement Day V – are on sale priced at £10 for adults and £5 for U16s via ospreysrugby.com/buytickets and to personal callers at ticket office in the Liberty Stadium and WRU Shop between gates 3 and 4 of Principality Stadium.
