Outside half Iwan Burgwin led the way with a 19 point haul in the 59-12 victory at Ystrad Mynach as he grabbed a try and kicked seven conversions. The home side raced into a 33 point lead by the early stages of the second half and only a brace of tries from RGC’s replacement scrum half Henry Maitland-Davies stopped the rot.

It was the second big defeat suffered by the north Walians on their travels south this season. They were beaten 66-5 by reigning champions the Ospreys earlier this month. They also conceded tries to Will Griffiths, Matthew Jeffries, Dafydd Buckland, Luke Shaw, Rob Brookson, Zac Hewlett, Rhys Morgans and a penalty try.

The Dragons have now won two of their three matches to date this month. They were runners-up to the Ospreys last season.

A try in the first minute set the Scarlets on their way to an impressive 34-0 win over Blues South. Hooker Dom Booth was the first to cross the visitors’ line and there were four more to come as the young west Walians backed up their earlier victory over the Dragons.

The Scarlets scored at more than a point a minute in a blistering start in the opening quarter as outside half Bradley Roderick converted the opening score, kicked a penalty and then added the extras to a second try from full back Dean James in the 13th minute.

Wing Alex Varney, scrum half Dai Jones and centre Osian Knott grabbed second half tries, the last of which Roderick converted to complete the scoring.
