Champions Cymoedd aiming for the top with another win

Having broken their duck with a big win at Bridgend College last weekend, Neath Port Talbot College host reigning champions Coleg Y Cymoedd at The Gnoll tonight (Tuesday, 9 October) in the fourth round of the Welsh Schools & Colleges League.

It promises to be a stern test for the home side given Cymoedd have notched back to back wins over Ysgol Glantaf (28-14) and Bridgend College (38-10) in their opening two games. That makes them one of three unbeaten teams to date and a third bonus point win tonight would put them back on level terms with Coleg Sir Gar and Gwent College at the top of the table.

NPTC have Ospreys U18 back Iestyn Morgan, Bradley Roderick and Joe Hawkins in their side, while Billy Moxey is another regional representative up front. They were beaten 43-17 in the corresponding fixture last season.

The Blues regional derby at the Arms Park on Wednesday will see Cardiff & Vale College attempt to break their duck this season when they host Whitchurch HS. They conceded five tries to Sir Gar last week in a 31-13 defeat.

Sir Gar skipper Sam Williams picked up a hat-trick of tries from No 8, while Bradley Roderick helped himself to 11 points with a try and three conversions. The other home try came from Callum Williams, while Jake Beetham kicked eight points for the visitors, who had a try from Jake Thomas.

Whitchurch HS once again had to come from behind to pick up their second win of the season as they beat Coleg Llandrillo 20-17 in Colwyn Bay. Having led 8-7 at the break they then found themselves trailing 17-13 after 52 minutes after Dafydd Williams had converted his own try for the home side.

Three minutes later Ellis John hauled his side back in front with a third try of the afternoon for the visitors. Jake McPherson added the extras and Whitchurch made it back to back wins on the road after their 44-36 win in Pembrokeshire.

Unbeaten Gwent College are likely to face their stiffest test of the season to date when they host Ysgol Glantaf at Ystrady Mynach. Both sides enjoyed comfortable victories last week, with Gwent running in five tries in a 36-0 win at Gower College and Glantaf doing even better in their 47-5 home win over Llandovery College.
