PREM PREVIEW: Bedwas hoping to get one over on Cardiff

BEDWAS head coach Stefan Sankala maintains his side has turned the corner ahead of their Principality Premiership clash with Cardiff at the Bridgefield in front of the BBC Wales Scrum V cameras tonight (kick-off 7:10pm).

The Gwent club lost their opening five Premiership fixtures before claiming a narrow win at Bargoed last Saturday. And Sankala is hoping his side can keep the momentum going and climb up the table.

“After picking up our first win last Saturday there is a different buzz around the place,” he said.
“That buzz has been heightened due to the fact the boys will be playing live on the BBC.

“We are very excited and hopefully the weather won’t be as bad as predicted so we can actually put a showcase on. Despite losing our first few games we were never far away from getting results.

“In the majority of games we have been very competitive and we’ve probably only been about five per cent off. A major downfall of ours has been our ill-discipline but we got that right on Saturday and ended up winning.

“I don’t think we are a million miles away it’s just about finding that extra couple of per cent and finishing on the right side of the scoreboard. Getting that elusive win last weekend has lifted a lot of weight off our shoulders. We need to keep that momentum going by beating Cardiff tonight.”

Despite being confident in his side’s ability Sankala has warned his side not to underestimate Cardiff.
The Blue and Blacks have experienced an indifferent start to the season and currently lie in ninth position on the Premiership table.

“Cardiff will bring a big strong set-piece to the party so we’ve worked really hard on our scrummaging in training,” he said.
“They’ve also got some elusive and experienced players out wide as well. Cardiff can play some good rugby.
“Our plan is to go out there and disrupt their first phase possession and if we can do that we will be in with a shout.”
