Following a revamped senior women’s regional programme, which concentrated on fitness and skills in order to prepare Wales Women for an intense autumn series and the upcoming Six Nations, now is the chance for the next generation of players to step up to the next level. CLICK HERE to register for the nine week programme which kicks off in the New Year.

Phillips said, “We saw the benefits of the senior, regional programme during our autumn campaign where fitness and skill levels were visibly improved and enabled the squad to meet the challenge of playing three international Test matches in close succession.

“Some of those squad players, such as Manon Johnes and Lauren Smyth came through the U18 regional programme last year and have already stepped up to become senior internationals.

“This U18 regional programme will follow the format of the senior programme and will be the pathway to identify and develop players for international rugby. It’s an opportunity for players to improve. We know we have the talent in Wales but this pathway will make a difference in nurturing future international players. We are appealing to girls who have come through the cluster pathway and / or played within their schools or clubs to put their hands up for the senior regional and international game.”

The U18 regional women’s programme will be run for a total of nine weeks, starting with an intense, three week pre-season training programme at regional venues around Wales and kicking off week commencing January 7 followed by six weeks of regional matches.

*Players must be at least 15 on Sep 1 2018 and under 18 as of August 31 2018 (Year 11 – Year 13 age).
