Fisher’s men host Bargoed this weekend in another major basement battle as they seek to climb out of the bottom four.
“We knew we had to beat the Quins to give ourselves any chance of staying in the league. We’ve now given ourselves a fighting chance and the game against Bargoed is vital,” said Fisher.
“Apart from Cardiff, we have played the top six teams home and away and have seven home games to go. I hope this win will give the players the confidence to keep on winning.”
Pontypridd skipper Dafydd Lockyer said his players are not worried about the off the field noise at Sardis Road surrounding the club’s financial position and underlined the fact they are still eyeing up a possible double with a 45=- win over basement side Neath at the weekend.
Alex Webber crossed twice in the first half to set-up a 24-0 interval lead before the forwards took charge as Shay Smallman, Rhys Shellard and outstanding No 8 Alun Lawrence all scored.
“It was a tough week for the fans, coaches, medical staff, not just the players. Social media blew it all out of the water,” said Locker.
“We got paid and when we go on the pitch and it is up to us to perform whatever is going on off it. That’s for others to sort out.
“Everyone thinks it is doom and gloom, we are not getting paid for this or that and the club is going to fold. But we are third in the league, we’re still in the cup and we are going out to win the double.”
Ponty are still third behind league leaders Merthyr, who had Terri Gee to thank for their 24-17 win at Bridgend as the wing helped himself to a hat-trick after the home said had taken the lead with a first minute try from Caine Woolerton. Cardiff are second after they came from behind to win at Cross Keys.
Bedwas climbed out of the automatic relegation places as they plundered a magnificent seven tries in their 52-7 basement battle victory over Bargoed.
In charge from the moment left wing Adam Williams crossed for the first try five minutes into the game, their victory ended a run of seven games without success and was their first league victory since 23 November.
The bonus-point enabled them to leap-frog over Llanelli and Bridgend, although the latter have two games in hand. Joe Scrivens chipped in with 13 points as he landed all six kicks.
Llandovery overturned a 14-point deficit to record an impressive 31-24 victory over RGC1404 at Stadiwm Zip World. Tries from Richard Williams, Joe Powell, Richard Brooks and Kristian Jones was enough to secure Euros Evans’ side a bonus point win, while outside half Jack Maynard kicked 11 points.
The Gogs scored three tries of their own courtesy of Danny Cross, Dion Jones and Jordan Scott with Billy McBryde contributing nine points off the kicking tee.
Ebbw Vale slipped to a surprise 29-15 defeat at Swansea, where Jay Williams, Chris Morgans, Nathan Trowbridge and Callum Carson all went over for the Whites, while Aberavon drew with Gwent opposition at home for the second time this season – this time sharing the spoils with Newport following a 13-13 draw.
Newport led 13-10 at half time through David Richards and Duan Thomas tries with Matt O’Brien kicking a penalty. Aberavon, having led through Will Price’s try, had hooker Ieuan Davies sent off after a fight broke out as Newport scored their second try and had to play for 63 minutes with 14 men.
